Define what you are saving
List the data and settings needed for recovery. Record the backup date and application version.
Test restoration separately
Do not replace production data for a test. Restore the copy to a separate location and check integrity, expected records and readability. For a running database, use a backup mechanism that produces a consistent copy.
Assess the limits
A backup on the same server helps with some local failures, but will not survive loss of the entire server. Record which scenarios your storage method covers. Do not claim successful recovery if you only checked that a file exists.
